“Every act of violence in this world, whether
sanctioned or unsanctioned, is a betrayal
of language. I believe in language.” Thus
speaks NAOMI SHIHAB NYE, a Palestinian-
American writer who lives in San
Antonio, TX, with her husband, photographer
Michael Nye, and their children. Her
latest work includes three books: “A Maze
Me: Poems for Girls;” “Going Going” (a
novel for teens); “You & Yours,” poems.
Nye has written more than 25 books, including
“19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of
the Middle East,” a National Book Award
finalist, and “Habibi,” a novel translated
into German and Hebrew that won six Best
Book awards, was turned into a stage play,
and is used as a textbook in many schools.
