Budding Fiction Contest

Call for Submissions

Publio magazine aims to recognize outstanding achievement in creative writing in the categories of poetry, short fiction and essay.

Originality, clarity of meaning and an application form are the main prerequisites to enter Publio's Budding Fiction contest, along with the following rules:

  • Short fiction: 3,000 words maximum
  • Essay: 2,000 words maximum
  • Poetry: One poem (any style)

  • Open to non-professional authors only (i.e. author does not make a living from writing in the category of submission).
  • Submissions must be neither previously published nor accepted for publication anywhere else, electronically or in print.
  • Only one submission per category per contestant.
  • One application form per contestant must be completed.

  • Only electronic submissions in a Word document attached to an email message.
  • No post office mail submissions.

  • All submissions must be received by 30 Sep. 2009.
  • Three finalists are selected in each category.
  • First place appears in-print in Publio.
  • Second and third places appear online.

  • Send submissions to EDITOR at PUBLIO dot COM
  • Only finalists will be contacted by Publio magazine.
  • No phone calls, please.

    Publio magazine assumes no responsibility for undelivered email attachments. All submissions become the property of Publio magazine without infringement on the copyrights of the contestants. All rights revert back to contestants who are non-finalists. Entries will be screened for proper submission procedures and will be rejected if they do not meet the general eligibility or the specific entry requirements.
